Matthew L. Williams is an Equity Partner at Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard who has built a reputation as one of the firm’s premier medical malpractice trial attorneys. He joined the firm in 2003 and was named a Partner in 2009. For more than two decades, he has dedicated his career to representing individuals and families whose lives have been forever changed by medical negligence, birth injuries, catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, and premises liability. Through meticulous preparation, compelling courtroom advocacy, and an unwavering commitment to his clients, he has recovered more than $575 million for injured individuals and their families.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Williams has played a leading role in some of the firm’s most notable medical malpractice cases. He is known for taking on challenging cases that require extensive medical knowledge, collaboration with nationally recognized experts, and the ability to present complicated issues clearly and persuasively before a jury.
Among his most notable achievements are serving as lead counsel in two medical malpractice cases that resulted in jury verdicts exceeding $50 million – a $75.8 million verdict on behalf of a young girl who suffered a brain injury and severe physical injuries at birth, and a $50.3 million jury verdict for a child who suffered a severe and permanent brain injury at birth. In 2025, he won a $20.5 million jury verdict on behalf of the family of a little girl in remission from leukemia who died due to morphine toxicity from medications prescribed by her healthcare providers.
In addition to his trial work, Mr. Williams has successfully argued before the Illinois Supreme Court and has handled appeals involving significant legal issues affecting injured individuals throughout the state.
Mr. Williams believes that every client deserves the same level of commitment, preparation, and advocacy regardless of the size or complexity of the case. He takes pride in building strong relationships with the individuals and families he represents, guiding them through some of the most difficult moments of their lives with compassion, honesty, and unwavering support. Within the firm, Mr. Williams is a respected mentor and leader. He works closely with fellow attorneys to develop litigation strategies, prepare cases for trial, and uphold the standard of excellence that has defined Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard for decades.
A graduate of the University of Illinois and DePaul University’s College of Law, Mr. Williams’ work has earned him consistent recognition among the legal profession’s most respected organizations. He has been selected annually to the Illinois Super Lawyers list and recognized among the Top 100 Illinois Super Lawyers. He has also been honored annually by Best Lawyers in the areas of Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury Litigation and holds an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell®, the organization’s highest distinction for professional excellence and ethical standards as evaluated by fellow attorneys and members of the judiciary.
Mr. Williams is a member of many local and national bar associations, including the American Association for Justice, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association. He has devoted significant time to advancing the plaintiff’s trial bar through education and advocacy, currently serving on the Board of Managers of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. He has also been a speaker at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, where he has lectured to the MBA Business Law class on trial advocacy, persuasion, and litigation strategy.
Community engagement is a priority for Mr. Williams. He currently serves on the board of directors for three local charity organizations, including Kids Above All, Raising a Reader, and the Michael Matters Foundation.
