Michael L. Shanahan

Michael L. Shanahan serves as an associate attorney at Levin & Perconti in Chicago, Illinois. He extends legal representation to individuals not only within the Chicago metropolitan area, but also across the entire state and nationwide. He focuses on cases involving injuries caused by the negligence of others, encompassing a wide spectrum of legal areas such as birth injury/medical malpractice lawsuits, construction negligence cases, wrongful death claims, product liability and more.

In addition, Mr. Shanahan is actively engaged in every aspect of the litigation process, involving case intake, the preparation and submission of complaints, conducting depositions and participating in trials. He has been able to obtain several sizable settlements and verdicts on behalf of his clients. Some of his noteworthy achievements in terms of settlements and verdicts include:

• A settlement of $1.5 million in a negligence case against a Chicago Area Community Integrated Living Arrangement (CILA) group home
• A medical malpractice verdict resulting in a substantial $1.17 million award
• A significant $1 million settlement in a nursing home negligence case, among others

In 2009, Mr. Shanahan obtained his undergraduate degrees in economics and finance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Subsequently, prior to enrolling in law school, he dedicated a year to serving as an elementary school teacher in an underprivileged school in San Diego, California, as part of his participation in the Augustinian Volunteers program.

Mr. Shanahan successfully completed his legal education at the DePaul University College of Law and gained admission to the Illinois Bar in 2013. During his time as a law student, he garnered recognition for his outstanding achievements, receiving the prestigious CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Trial Advocacy and Legal Drafting. Moreover, he demonstrated his dedication to academic excellence by being awarded the Dean's Merit Scholarship.

While pursuing his legal education, Mr. Shanahan gained practical experience by working as a clerk at a prominent litigation firm in Chicago. In this capacity, he provided valuable assistance to attorneys across a diverse range of legal areas, including construction, trucking, premise liability and personal injury litigation. Before joining Levin & Perconti, he was employed by a Chicago-based firm concentrating on general liability and workers' compensation cases.

Mr. Shanahan has earned significant recognition in his legal career, cementing his reputation as a formidable advocate for personal injury plaintiffs. Notably, he has been recognized as an Emerging Lawyer – Personal Injury Plaintiff by the Leading Lawyers.
