Nicholas Vogelzang has been advocating and fighting for families stricken with mesothelioma for over 20 years. His practice is focused on dedication to his craft and doing what is necessary for his clients’ peace of mind. He regularly appears in court, arguing against Fortune 500 companies and other corporations, holding them accountable for their negligence.
Nick was inspired to pursue law by his mother. She encouraged him toward a career that would allow him to pursue justice while fostering public good. He earned his B.A. in political science at Calvin University before continuing on to Saint Louis University for his Juris Doctor. His interest in mesothelioma and asbestos litigation came from his father, Dr. Nicholas Vogelzang, a renowned and dedicated oncologist who dedicated his career to treating mesothelioma patients.Â
Throughout his career, Nick has represented more than 200 families with every imaginable type of asbestos exposure throughout the country, resulting in more than $200,000,000 in settlements and verdicts. One of his first trials resulted in the most significant asbestos verdict in Illinois history, at $250,000,000. His most recent trial victory, O’Reilly v U.S. Steel, was a team effort that yielded a $7,000,000 verdict for the client. Nick takes pride in getting to know each family personally and working with them to determine the source of their asbestos exposure.Â
Nick’s current and former clients include a sheet metal worker, a chemical engineer from Allied Chemical, a TWA airplane mechanic, the mother and husband of a Local 597 Chicago pipefitter, a residential and commercial plumber, a window glazier, a Local 17 asbestos insulator, the wife of a John Jay High School maintenance worker, a pipe fitter that worked at Bethlehem Steel and Kroger Dairy, and two steelworkers from U.S. Steel.
Beyond the courtroom, Nick is committed to supporting the mesothelioma community through education and fundraising. He serves through his many speaking engagements and fundraising events that help shine a light on the families affected by mesothelioma. In 2018, Vogelzang Law founded the Mesothelioma Race for Justice, an annual 5K race that donates proceeds to mesothelioma research. He has also been a speaker at the Perrin National Asbestos Litigation Conference consecutively for several years.Â
