Attorney Profile

Nicholas J. Vogelzang focuses his practice on personal injury and wrongful death litigation that emphasizes mesothelioma and other results of asbestos exposure, and he is the founder of and lead counsel at Vogelzang Law. Based in Chicago, he represents victims and the surviving family members of victims throughout the greater metropolitan area and across Illinois, and he is admitted to practice before all Illinois state courts. Mr. Vogelzang also has experience in cases arising out of the use of Actos, an oral medication that is used to treat diabetes but that has been the subject of warnings from the Food and Drug Administration regarding its potential to lead to an increased risk of bladder cancer.

Mr. Vogelzang is known for his participation during the early part of his career in a trial brought by a retired U.S. Steel worker against his former employer after being diagnosed with mesothelioma. That case resulted in a jury award of $250 million, which is thought to be the largest asbestos verdict in state history. Since that time, he has represented many more asbestos exposure victims and their survivors, and he has obtained millions of dollars in settlements and jury awards. His clients have included sheet metal workers, pipe fitters, airplane mechanics and chemical engineers.

Mr. Vogelzang's successes both in the courtroom and at the negotiating table have led to his receipt of a "Superb" peer review rating through Avvo. In addition, he has been named to The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100. Mr. Vogelzang is a graduate of Calvin College, where he majored in political science and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1996. His legal education was obtained at Saint Louis University School of Law, and he was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1999.
