Verdicts/Settlements (Case Results):
  • On May 22, 2016, a 39-year-old man was traveling on Milwaukee Avenue in Glenview, Illinois, when he was hit by a car pulling out of a private driveway. Despite being in plain view on the roadway, the other driver never saw our client’s vehicle. Following the collision, our client was hospitalized for several days to receive treatment for a brain bleed, fractured ribs, and spinal fractures. After several rounds of unsuccessful physical therapy and spinal injections, our client underwent multiple low back surgeries. Prior to the collision, our client was very active and worked as a mechanic. Although his recovery from the injuries has been relatively good, he is still unable to do many of the activities he once enjoyed and has been unable to return to work as a mechanic.Lane & Lane Partner Scott Lane and Associate Attorney Nick Kamenjarin faced a number of challenges in this case, including issues related to the causation of several injuries as well as insurance coverage. Initially, only $1 million in insurance coverage was disclosed during the litigation. However, as a result of extensive motion practice and pure persistence, they were able to discover coverage well in excess of that amount. The case was filed in Cook County and mediated with the Honorable Dennis J. Burke, (Ret.). The case settled at mediation for $2.8 million. We are pleased that our client was able to get the financial compensation and support that he needs and deserves., 2021
