Attorney Profile

Patrick is an experienced and versatile family law attorney skilled in negotiation, litigation, and the collaborative process. He focuses on financially complex divorces and contested custody disputes.

At every stage of the divorce process, Patrick helps his clients understand their options and the risks and rewards attached to each one. He also helps his clients fully comprehend the complex legal and financial issues of their cases, including valuation, taxation, trust issues, and options for division. To help assure that he and his clients’ professional advisers stay on the same page, Patrick often works in tandem with accountants, trust attorneys, estate planners, and other professionals.

Patrick believes it is critically important for his clients to participate in the decision-making process and make their own choices. He knows that when clients understand that they are the drivers of how the divorce unfolds, they realize more satisfactory outcomes and more quickly regain a sense of optimism and control over their lives.

The negative emotions that are often unleashed when a marriage dissolves can be destructive, but they can also be managed. Patrick frequently works in conjunction with mental health professionals, child specialists, divorce coaches, and other professionals, and he encourages this support for his clients.

When negotiation or collaboration is not appropriate for a divorce or custody dispute, Patrick’s well-honed litigation skills have enormous value. Prior to practicing family law, he represented major corporations in litigation. He utilizes this experience to resolve high-stakes disputes—whether through settlement or by taking a case to trial.

The recipient of many accolades, including graduating summa cum laude from DePaul University College of Law in 2007, Patrick served as a member of the law review while at DePaul and received a CALI award for excellence in legal writing, trial advocacy, and real property law.

Patrick is actively involved in serving the legal community as a member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association. He is an advisory board member to the Schiller DuCanto & Fleck Family Law Center at DePaul University College of Law and is Chair to the Domestic Relations Committee of the Chicago Bar Association.

Patrick received training at the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois. He was a Public Interest Law Initiative Fellow, and is currently a Chicago Bar Foundation Young Professional Board Member.

He has moderated seminars as the Vice-Chair and Chair of the Domestic Relations Committee of the Chicago Bar Association, including "Demystifying Collaborative Law."

Patrick and his wife, a family therapist, have two sons. He enjoys being a father, and he feels that being a parent helps him relate to clients dealing with parenting/custody issues. He also enjoys cooking, traveling, and the outdoors.
