Ray Prather

An attorney with Prather Ebner LLP, Ray Prather represents both individuals and businesses in the Chicago, Illinois, metropolitan area. His practice focuses on legal matters related to professional trustees, fiduciary duties, complexity in taxable estates, conflicts in family matters, and gifts and inheritances. His down to earth, practical approach to law allows his clients to remove the emotion from what can often be a contentious experience.

In 2003, Mr. Prather graduated from Augustana College with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting. He then earned his Juris Doctor in 2005 from DePaul University College of Law. A certified public accountant, he is also certified in financial forensics and admitted to practice in the state of Illinois. At Chicago-Kent College of Law, he worked as an adjunct professor and taught estate planning and federal transfer taxes.

The Windy City Times named him a 30 Under 30 Award Recipient in 2008. For three years, Bulletin Publishing Company’s Leading Lawyers named him an emerging lawyer in closely and privately held business law, and trust, will and estate planning law. A Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, Mr. Prather is also a member of the Advocate Charitable Foundation Planned Giving Council and the Chicago Estate Planning Council.

A member of the Illinois State Bar Association, he served as the chair of the Standing Committee on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and as Chair for the Trusts & Estates Section Council. Mr. Prather is a member of the American Bar Association and a member of its Real Property, Trusts and Estate Law Section's Section Council and former chair of its Charitable Planning and Organizations Group
