Fluent in both English and Hausa, Saani Mohammed is the founder and managing partner of Mohammed Law and works out of the firm’s office in Chicago, Illinois. He has quite a diverse practice that primarily encompasses criminal defense, but it also includes immigration, personal injury litigation and family law. Mr. Mohammed has been admitted to practice before all Illinois state courts since 2014.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in geography and resource development from the University of Ghana in 2005, Mr. Mohammed enrolled at Rhode Island College. While there, he majored in justice studies, and in 2010 he received a Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude in 2010. Mr. Mohammed then went on to pursue his legal education at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, and while he was there, he served a summer clerkship with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office before obtaining his Juris Doctor in 2014. After he graduated, he returned to that office as an assistant state’s attorney, and he worked in that capacity before opening his firm in March 2019.
Mr. Mohammed’s criminal defense experience includes his representation of Chicago-area clients in cases involving driving under the influence of alcohol, domestic violence, white collar charges such as fraud, weapons violations, robbery, burglary, and drug possession and trafficking. He has been able to obtain positive results through acquittals, charge dismissals and the negotiation of favorable plea agreements with the prosecution. In his immigration practice, Mr. Mohammed has worked on matters based on family visas, deportation and removal defense, and naturalization.
