Steven J. Roeder

Attorney Steven J. Roeder is the founder and principal of Roeder Law Offices LLC in Chicago, Illinois. Over the course of his more than 30 years practicing law, Mr. Roeder has achieved notable success handling litigation matters in state and federal courts as well as numerous arbitrations. A veteran of over 35 trials, he possesses the extensive skills and resources necessary to help his clients achieve the favorable outcomes they seek efficiently. He has served both plaintiff and defendant clients alike with matters involving breaches of fiduciary duty, insurance coverage disputes, partnership and limited liability company disputes, contract disputes, fraud and many other issues.

Moreover, Mr. Roeder has prosecuted and defended numerous claims of professional misconduct and negligence for a variety of licensed professionals, such as attorneys, physicians and accountants. He holds the distinction of having secured one of the largest verdicts in Illinois' history regarding a case involving audit malpractice, and he has defended several companies against claims their products caused serious personal injury and wrongful death.

Among his most recent successes, Mr. Roeder obtained a permanent injunction to prevent former employees from disclosing or using trade secrets, and he has secured dismissals of claims of more than $100 million for trade secret misappropriation and breaches of fiduciary duty. He also helped secure a dismissal of a plaintiff’s complaint involving the destruction of key evidence and a sanctions award of nearly $250,000.

Mr. Roeder graduated from The University of Chicago in 1980, where he received his Bachelor of Arts with special honors in political science. That same year, he also received his Master of Arts in social sciences. He then attended the University of Illinois College of Law, where he obtained his Juris Doctor in 1984. While in law school, he served as editor for the school's Law Review and received the Rickert Award for Excellence in Legal Writing.

The Illinois State Bar Association admitted him to practice in 1984, and he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the Eastern District of Michigan, and the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.

Mr. Roeder is highly active with several professional legal organizations, including the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Lawyers Club of Chicago, among others, and he is a member of the 7th Circuit Bar Association's board of governors. Mr. Roeder also serves on the adjunct legal faculty at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, and he has written extensively and conducted lectures and seminars across the nation on a variety of legal topics.
