    Attorney Profile

A partner at Corboy & Demetrio, Susan J. Schwartz focuses her practice exclusively on personal injury and wrongful death litigation, with a particular emphasis on medical professional negligence. She represents clients throughout Cook, DuPage, and Kane counties and other parts of the greater Chicago metropolitan area. Ms. Schwartz has been admitted to practice before all Illinois state courts as well as before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois since 1980.

During her distinguished career, Ms. Schwartz has been able to secure millions of dollars in negotiated settlements and jury verdicts for her clients who have been harmed as a result of the negligence of health care practitioners and facilities. Some of her representative results have included a $7 million settlement of a case involving a misread pap smear, $14 million for the negligent intubation of an 8-year-old girl, and a $10 million jury award for a physician who was injured during the delivery of her baby. In addition, Ms. Schwartz co-chaired a medical malpractice trial with one of her partners that resulted in a $22 million jury award. She has had similar successes in non-medical malpractice lawsuits, including a premises liability case involving a student who was injured using a trampoline and which was settled for $14.675 million.

Her successful track record both in and out of the courtroom has earned Ms. Schwartz a great deal of recognition from her colleagues, including an AV Preeminent* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and an "Excellent" peer-review rating through Avvo. She is a 1977 recipient of a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service and a 1980 recipient of a Juris Doctor from Loyola University School of Law.
