William J. Factor

William J. Factor founded his firm in April 2009, and he continues to focus his practice on a variety of commercial and consumer bankruptcy matters. At the Law Office of William J. Factor, Ltd., he provides representation to people and businesses throughout the greater Chicago metropolitan area and other parts of Illinois from the firm’s offices in Chicago and Northbrook.

Mr. Factor began his legal career as an associate at the home office of a Chicago-based international law firm, and, while he was there, he gained extensive experience in assisting creditors and creditors’ committees in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. He then joined another well-known Chicago-based law firm, and, as a partner, he continued on in the same area of law and also began representing people who had been appointed as trustees to oversee Chapter 7 consumer bankruptcies.

Since founding his own firm, Mr. Factor has expanded his practice to general commercial litigation while keeping his emphasis on bankruptcy matters, and he now represents debtors along with lenders and other creditors. His broad experience includes proceedings initiated under Chapter 13 as well as Chapter 7 and Chapter 11, and his caseload has also encompassed loan workouts, fraudulent conveyances, discharge denials, preferences, collections and assignments for the benefit of creditors. Mr. Factor has also handled general commercial litigation along with purchase transactions and their associated financing requirements. 

Exemplifying his successful track record, Mr. Factor is AV Preeminent peer-review rated,* the highest rating, through Martindale-Hubbell and he has received an “Excellent” rating on Avvo. A graduate of The University of Chicago, he pursued his legal education at DePaul University College of Law, where he served on the DePaul Law Review before receiving his juris doctorate with high honors and being inducted into the Order of the Coif in 1990.
