David B. Franks

David B. Franks is a partner at Franks, Kelly Matuszewich & Andrle, P.C., located in Lake in the Hills, Illinois. He has been a distinguished criminal attorney since his admission to the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) in 1989, with over 15 years of experience in criminal prosecution and defense. His legal practice covers areas such as DUI, traffic defense, drug crimes, sex crimes and domestic violence. Additionally, he manages cases related to personal injury from car accidents and workers' compensation.

With eight years as an assistant state’s attorney and seven years in criminal defense under his belt, Mr. Franks possesses a deep understanding of DUI and criminal defense cases. His prowess as a researcher, negotiator and advocate has led to remarkable outcomes for his clients, successfully defending those charged with offenses ranging from DUI and reckless driving to serious criminal charges like Class X felonies.

In 2007, Mr. Franks retired from the United States Navy Reserve, where he attained the rank of commander (equivalent to lieutenant colonel). His military service sharpened his strategic thinking and planning abilities, enabling him to craft defenses uniquely suited to each case. Mr. Franks began his academic journey with a B.S. from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, followed by a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., in 1988. His career took off as an assistant state’s attorney in Cook and McHenry counties, Illinois. Notably, in McHenry County, he spent four years prosecuting in the Misdemeanor and Felony Divisions and was one of the pioneering domestic battery prosecutors. He also took on the role of Misdemeanor and Traffic Division supervisor.

An esteemed member of the legal community, Mr. Franks actively participates in the ISBA – Criminal Justice Section Council, and Traffic Laws and Courts Section Council. He is also a member of the McHenry County Bar Association. Furthermore, he is a fellow of the Illinois Bar Foundation and holds a "Superb" rating on Avvo, reflecting his commitment to excellence in legal practice.
