Jerald A. Kessler is unparalleled in his legal field for his breadth of experience and practical knowledge to help clients get through contentious family law matters through effective mediation practices. He is a full-time mediator, was selected by the Illinois State Bar Association to train family as well as civil mediators, and provides advanced trainings for other mediators.  Mediating via Zoom (the dominant mode of mediation globally), Mr. Kessler mediates cases not only for Lake and Cook County, but throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.  He has mediated over 2800 cases serving as a mediator over the past 37 years.

Mr. Kessler received his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago, graduating with Special Honors. He obtained his  Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School. 

A thoughtful leader within his legal community and the mediation profession, Mr. Kessler has been at the forefront of new and innovative legal strategies in an effort to make it easier for people to resolve divorce and family issues.  He champions the use of mediation in divorce and other family law matters (e.g. post-divorce, parenting, family business disputes, elder care, and will contests) helping  parties save time and money – as well as their mental well-being. For his many contributions, he holds a perfect “10.0” rating on Avvo and is rated Distinguished* through Martindale-Hubbell. 

Within the legal community, Mr. Kessler is closely involved within many prominent legal and mediation organizations, such as the Mediation Council of Illinois (president), the Illinois State Bar Association (Alternative Dispute Resolution Section Council), the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts – Illinois Chapter (founding treasurer) and the Academy of Professional Family Law Mediators (founder). He is also closely affiliated with the Lake County Bar Association, the Association for Conflict Resolution (advanced practitioner), the Lake County Bar Association and The Chicago Bar Association, among many others.
