Andy Sotiropoulos

I am a licensed attorney in the State of Illinois since 1999, concentrating my practice in the defense of those accused of DUI. In that period of time I have established a stellar reputation in the field of DUI defense both at the local and national level.

My office has successfully handled over 2,000 DUI files ranging from first offenses to felonies. I have obtained acquittals/dismissals/reductions in cases involving serious accidents, breath/blood tests well in excess of the .08 statutory limit, drug duis, and/or standardized field sobriety tests.

My success is primarily the result of an unwavering commitment to excellence in DUI defense. I regularly attend national/local seminars on the topic and keep abreast of the latest developments, trends and law changes in the field.

I am a sustaining member of the National College of DUI Defense (NCDD) and DuPage County Bar Association, and a regular member of DUI Defense Lawyers of America, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Illinois State Bar Association and Hellenic Bar Association of Illinois. I currently serve as the Illinois State Delegate to the National College for DUI Defense as well as on their Impaired Driving Task Force. Furthermore, I have served as past Chairman of the Chicago Bar Association Traffic Laws Committee as well as Co Editor of the Illinois State Bar Association Traffic Laws & Courts Committee Newsletter. Additionally, I served on the Editorial Board of Innovative DUI Trial Tools by James Publishing.

I am the only Illinois attorney to ever complete all requirements for the American Chemical Society Lawyer-Scientist designation (not formally recognized in Illinois) and be awarded the NCDD Defense Forensic Science Award, the two most prestigious awards/designations in the DUI defense field as they relate to chemical testing of blood, breath, urine and saliva.

Additionally, I hold both student and instructor certifications from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and a NHTSA student certification in Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement.

I am also the only Illinois attorney ever to be awarded the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers DWI Scholar Award.

The NCDD has recognized me with their Leadership Award (2024) and as a Member in the Spotlight in (2025). 

I regularly speak at various law related events, have published the article "Common Errors in Administration of the HGN" in the December 2024 edition of NACDL's CHAMPION magazine and have honed my trial skills by attending the Trial Lawyers College Opening Statements workshop and Roger Dodds Trial Skills Cross Examination seminar.    

My office takes matters to the appellate level, having just recently won a reversal of a DUI conviction in a case involving a breath test where the machine operator was ultimately found not to have been appropriately licensed at the time of testing, my office won a reversal on the 625 ILCS 5/11-501 (a)(1) DUI charge.

Lastly, my office also helps motorists who have lost their driving privileges obtain reinstatement via the Secretary of State hearing process.

I am 10 Star rated by both Avvo and Justia, have the Clients Choice Award from Avvo and the Professional Involvement and Community Leadership designations from Lawyer Legion. I was also recognized as a Top 100 Lawyer by the National Trial Lawyers in 2026.
