The chief legal counsel of Park Gold LTD’s Family & Guardianship Division, attorney Ashonta C. Rice predominantly assists the residents of Illinois, including the Chicago metro area, Oak Brook, Orland Park and Cook County, with their family law issues. Her practice entails various facets of family law, including, but not limited to, guardian ad litem, child support, divorce mediation services, paternity, adoption, collaborative divorce, obtaining domestic violence orders, modification orders, child custody, divorce, and pre- and postnuptial agreements.
As someone who tirelessly strives to safeguard children's rights, Ms. Rice has dedicated 20 years to serving as a child representative and guardian ad litem appointed by the Chicago Bar Association. She is also often appointed by the Circuit Court of Cook County to represent children in contentious cases as a child representative and guardian ad litem. It is this commitment and diligent work ethic of hers that has earned her a “Very Good” rating on Avvo, and the many positive client testimonials she hosts on the site. She was also inducted into the esteemed “10 Best Attorneys for Exceptional and Outstanding Client Service” list by the American Institute of Legal Counsel for her contributions to the field of family law.
Ms. Rice completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in finance. She earned her J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2004. Her proficiency in handling family law cases is further complemented by her training in divorce mediation skills from the Northwestern University School of Professional Studies. Apart from her legal practice, she delivers talks on her practice areas for continuing legal education events organized by the Illinois State Bar Association and the Black Women Conferences.
Ms. Rice is an active member of the legal community, who maintains memberships with the Illinois State Bar Assocation, the Cook County Bar Association, Black Women Lawyers' Association of Greater Chicago and the National Bar Association. She is well-known by clients for her unwavering support and judicious representation, especially in cases where all other legal avenues are exhausted. In addition to her shrewd legal acumen, she ensures to maintain a transparent rapport with her clients, making sure to communicate clearly with them throughout the entirety of their cases.
