Michael Biederstadt, the visionary behind Family Wealth & Legacy Legal Solutions in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, has carved a unique path in the legal world as an author, speaker, and certified mediator focusing on estate planning, family law and collaborative law. Serving the communities of DuPage County and the broader Chicago suburbs, he has committed his career to preemptively addressing potential legal issues, ensuring families avoid the turmoil of divorce and probate courtrooms.

Mr. Biederstadt’s academic journey began at Loyola University, followed by an accelerated Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso School of Law. His early career was marked by diverse experiences, including prosecuting serious felonies for the Illinois State’s Attorney, contributing to the Indiana Supreme Court's jury instruction revisions, and advocating for athletes and families in legal clinics.

In 2007, Mr. Biederstadt joined a boutique family law firm in the Chicago suburbs, where he honed his skills in family law. By 2014, his passion for justice led him to co-found Rise From the Ashes, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting domestic violence victims in Illinois. Two years later, he established his law firm and in 2023, he launched Family Wealth & Legacy Legal Solutions to better serve Illinois families and their future generations.

Witnessing the emotional and financial toll of adversarial legal battles, Mr. Biederstadt contemplated leaving the legal profession. The impact of divorce and domestic violence on families, especially children, was a profound concern. Determined to find a better way, he pursued certification in mediation and collaborative law from 2017 to 2020. This training, combined with his courtroom experience, revealed the interconnectedness of legal issues surrounding death, disability, and divorce.

Mr. Biederstadt realized that many families were unaware of preventative legal strategies that could safeguard them from common pitfalls. This insight inspired him to create innovative solutions like the Family Wealth and Legacy Plan, Children’s Protection Plan, The Asset Protection Plan and The Legacy Plan. By educating couples and young families early, he aims to prevent legal conflicts and keep families united, financially secure and emotionally healthy. His work is a testament to his belief that proactive planning can transform lives and preserve legacies.
