Kiley Whitty is a principal attorney at Laraia & Whitty, P.C., in Wheaton, Illinois. A magna cum laude graduate of Miami University, Ms. Whitty concentrated on speech communication and political science and completed her B.A. in 2006. During her time there, she was placed on the president’s as well as the dean’s list and served as a member of the Dean’s Student Advisory Council, Pi Sigma Alpha and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Later in 2009, Ms. Whitty obtained her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where she was the editor of the Children's Legal Rights Journal, recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future Award and a semi-finalist at the Chicago Bar Association Moot Court Competition. She clerked at the DuPage County and Cook County State Attorney's Offices. She is licensed in Illinois since 2009 and has also appeared before the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois.

Ms. Whitty frequently advocates for the rights of children as a certified guardian ad litem for the Domestic Relations Divisions of DuPage County and Kane County and for the DuPage County Probate Division. She also volunteers to lend her time and resources to those in need. She has offered pro bono legal assistance to families through DuPage Legal Aid and contributed hours as a courtroom facilitator at the Cook County Circuit Court – Third Municipal District.

Ms. Whitty is a Past President of both the DuPage County Bar Association and the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers. Additionally, she serves on the DuPage County Bar Association Judiciary Committee and has previously served on the Board of Directors for the DuPage Bar Foundation. Ms. Whitty holds memberships in the Illinois State Bar Association, DuPage County Bar Association, and Kane County Bar Association. She has contributed several professional papers and articles and presented at seminars.

  • This course will outline the general rules and requirements regarding GAL fees, including time records, filing invoices, approval of the court, and a general outline of 750 ILCS 5/506(b). It will also focus on ethical billing in a GAL case and what is “reasonable and necessary” as it pertains to fees. Additionally, this course will examine some of the ethical issues GALs face within the scope of their appointment, including confidentiality issues, reporting issues and conflicts of interests.
