Tolbert focuses a large portion of her practice on complex civil litigation matters, and her experience encompasses business formation and operations as well. Many of Ms. Tolbert’s clients are insurance companies, and she has defended them in a variety of matters. Her experience in this regard has encompassed first-party coverage claims, allegations of bad faith made by their policy holders, and business disputes. Ms. Tolbert has also acted as their defense counsel in personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits involving their clients and that have been based on premises liability, negligent hiring, police brutality and excessive force, and truck and other types of motor vehicle crashes.
Ms. Tolbert has additionally represented people who have been harmed by the negligence of other parties and who have incurred catastrophic injuries, including those to the brain and spinal cord. In addition to premises liability and motor vehicle collision cases, these claims have involved construction site and other workplace accidents, and she has been able to obtain significant amounts of compensation for her clients through jury awards at the conclusion of trials as well as through settlements that she has negotiated out of court with defendants and their liability insurance providers.
Ms. Tolbert majored in business management at Wittenberg University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1997. She then attended Valparaiso University School of Law and obtained her Juris Doctor in 2000. Ms. Tolbert is very active in several professional and community organizations, and she is admitted to practice in Indiana and before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana as well as the Seventh Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals.
