Details
Greg Padgett is the principal attorney at Padgett Law LLC, located in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is a seasoned practitioner in estate and trust law serving Indianapolis and its surrounding suburbs. His practice is devoted entirely to estate and trust litigation, covering areas such as will contests, claims in estates, trust disputes and breach of fiduciary duty litigation.
Licensed to practice law in Indiana, Mr. Padgett graduated summa cum laude from DePauw University in 1981 and earned his Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1984, graduating in the top third of his class. He began his legal career at Kirkland & Ellis, a Chicago-based law firm, focusing on complex commercial litigation, including class-action antitrust and trade regulation matters. By age 26, he had argued and won his first appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.
Mr. Padgett returned to Central Indiana in 1988 to join Baker & Daniels, where he started his work in estate and trust litigation. He gained substantial trial experience and successfully argued two more federal appeals and one Indiana state court appeal. In 1992, he became a partner at Johnson, Hall and Lawhead, where he deepened his knowledge and experience in estate litigation.
Throughout his career, Mr. Padgett has represented clients in over 50 of Indiana’s 92 counties. He was first profiled in Who’s Who in American Law in 1993, and he was named to the Bar Registry of Preeminent Lawyers, gaining an A/V rating from Martindale Hubbell in 1995. In 2003, he was recognized as one of the Outstanding Lawyers of America. He was first named an "Indiana Super Lawyer" in 2012, an honor accorded to only 5% of the state's attorneys, and has been continuously so recognized since. He is also a frequent contributor and lecturer at continuing legal education seminars on inheritance, estate and trust litigation.
In March 2004, Mr. Padgett founded Padgett Law LLC with a focus exclusively on estate and trust litigation. He has taught as an adjunct professor at Butler University and has authored and lectured at numerous seminars for the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum (ICLEF). He has been a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Indianapolis Bar Association since 1988. He has also been involved in pro bono activities with the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic.
