Nakeina S. Cane

The owner of Cane Legal, LLC, Nakeina S. Cane divides her practice between family law matters, criminal defense, intellectual property, and estate planning. From the firm's office in Indianapolis, Indiana, she provides informed advocacy for clients throughout the state. Ms. Cane is admitted to practice before all Indiana state courts.

The bulk of Ms. Cane's family law clients are people who are facing the end of their marriage and who are thus having to deal with such divorce-related issues as child custody and visitation, spousal and child support, and property division. A forceful advocate when litigation is necessary, she is a skilled negotiator as well, and she will often help her clients reach an accord on these matters without having to resort to a protracted courtroom battle. In addition to her divorce practice, Ms. Cane assists people whose marriages have already been legally dissolved and who are now seeking the enforcement of or modifications to existing support and parenting court orders, and her other family law experience has encompassed adoptions as well as paternity establishment and disputes.

In her criminal law practice, Ms. Cane represents people who have been charged by the state with having committed misdemeanor or felony offenses. She has handled many bench trials as well as those before juries, and she has been able to obtain successful results in many of these cases through acquittal and dismissals. Ms. Cane draws on her previous experience as a prosecutor in Marion County in order to anticipate the types of tactics that she will face as a defense attorney. She obtained her legal education at the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, where she served on the Journal of Animal and Environmental Law before graduating in 2010.
