The founder of his eponymous law firm, Travis A. Van Winkle has a varied practice that encompasses family law matters, estate planning and elder law, and consumer bankruptcy. Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, he represents clients throughout the greater metropolitan area and other parts of the state. Mr. Van Winkle has been admitted to practice in Indiana since 2003, and he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.
A large part of Mr. Van Winkle’s family law practice involves divorce and the related issues of parenting time, property division, and spousal and child support. In addition to handling litigation on these matters, his experience in negotiations as well as collaborative divorce allows him to help his clients come to an accord without having to go through a protracted and often divisive courtroom battle. Mr. Van Winkle has also handled cases affecting members of the LGBTQ+ community, and his experience has additionally included adoptions, grandparents’ rights, and paternity establishment and disputes.
Mr. Van Winkle has assisted many people who have become overwhelmed by seemingly insurmountable financial obligations. He has been able to help some of them find some measures of relief through settlement negotiations with creditors, but when that is not possible, he guides his clients through the process of filing for bankruptcy through Chapter 7 or 13 of the Bankruptcy Code.
In his estate planning practice, Mr. Van Winkle prepares and reviews trusts, wills, financial and health care powers of attorney, and advance medical directives. He also assists aging clients and their family members with long-term care planning and Medicaid issues.
