Andrew Howie is an accomplished attorney with Shindler, Anderson, Goplerud & Weese P.C. in West Des Moines, Iowa. His career began as a law clerk for the Iowa Judicial District 8(B), an experience that shaped his lifelong commitment to appellate and family practice.
Since earning his Juris Doctor with distinction from The University of Iowa College of Law in 1996, Mr. Howie has dedicated his career to guiding individuals through some of the most challenging moments of their lives. His undergraduate foundation in political science from Wartburg College further strengthened his commitment to advocacy and public service.
Beyond litigation, Mr. Howie has made significant contributions to the legal community as an author. He wrote the Family Law Manual for the Iowa State Bar Association, published in 2008, 2012, and 2018, a resource widely relied upon by practitioners and judges alike. In 2023, he co-authored Iowa Family Law with Forms, published by LexisNexis and Matthew Bender, further cementing his influence on the field.
Mr. Howie’s professional involvement includes leadership roles within the Iowa State Bar Association, where he has chaired both the Family Law and Appellate Practice Sections, as well as serving on the Iowa Supreme Court’s Family Law Case Processing Task Force. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and he holds board certification in family law from the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
