Michael D. Townsend

The founder of Townsend Law, LLC, in Overland Park, Kansas, Michael D. Townsend is an established attorney representing clients in all aspects of personal injury. Serving clients across the Kansas City metropolitan area spanning both Missouri and Kansas, he rigorously advocates for individuals who were injured due to the negligence or recklessness of other parties. He handles cases involving motor vehicle accidents, professional liability and insurance coverage, among others.

Having earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology and criminology from Kansas State University, Mr. Townsend enrolled at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law to pursue his legal studies. He received his Juris Doctor in 2005, along with the Thomas E. Deacy Trial Lawyer Award. He was admitted to practice in Kansas in the same year and, later in 2007, was admitted to The Missouri Bar. 

Upon admission to the bar, Mr. Townsend started his career as an attorney at an insurance defense firm, where he learned the ropes of insurance defense. In his practice today, he leverages his past knowledge as an insurance defense attorney to come up with strategies that can break through the defense. He works to successfully represent his clients, making sure they get the money they are due while deftly and assiduously negotiating the complexities of the legal system.

In the legal fraternity, Mr. Townsend is an active member of the American Bar Association, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and the American Association for Justice. He has been recognized on the National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 list and the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 list for his ongoing efforts to assist those who have suffered severe financial losses due to the carelessness of others. He also received an AV Preeminent* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.
