Michael D. Townsend

The founder of Townsend Law LLC, Michael D. Townsend focuses his practice exclusively on personal injury and wrongful death litigation. Since opening his firm in August 2021, he has assisted people throughout the greater Kansas City metropolitan area who have incurred significant economic and noneconomic losses because of the negligence or recklessness of other parties. Located in Overland Park, Kansas, Mr. Townsend is admitted to practice before all state courts in both Kansas and Missouri.

Mr. Townsend attended Kansas State University, where he majored in sociology and criminology and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science. He then went on to enroll at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, and he received The Thomas E. Deacy Trial Lawyer Award as well as his Juris Doctor cum laude in 2005. After graduation, Mr. Townsend spent several years as an attorney with an insurance defense firm, and this experience has allowed him to anticipate the types of tactics that he often faces now that he has devoted his practice to representing plaintiffs in these types of claims.

Mr. Townsend has extensive experience with a variety of complex personal injury and wrongful death matters. His caseload has included incidents involving truck, passenger car, and motorcycle crashes, auto-pedestrian accidents, medical malpractice and other types of professional negligence, premises liability, nursing home neglect and abuse, sexual assault, and defective products. Mr. Townsend’s skills in presenting cases in front of juries as well as his experience in negotiating favorable settlement agreements have allowed his clients to receive millions of dollars in compensation for their losses, and his colleagues have taken note of these successes and have named him to both The National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 under 40 and The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100.
