Robert D. Lewis

Robert D. Lewis is a partner at  Lawrence, Beirne & Lewis, in Covington, Kentucky, whose practice centers on representing children and families coping with catastrophic injuries resulting from poorly managed labors and negligent deliveries. He has pursued claims arising from cerebral palsy, perinatal stroke, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and traumatic brain injury, and he regularly undertakes cases that involve complex hospital and surgical systems failures. His work combines aggressive advocacy with sensitivity to the long-term needs of injured children and their caregivers.

Mr. Lewis has tried and litigated numerous birth injury matters to resolution and has handled an array of other medical negligence cases, including spinal cord injuries, anesthesia mishaps and surgical errors. He approaches each matter with the goal of securing accountability and practical outcomes, recognizing that litigation is often a last resort for families already navigating profound loss and disruption. He is committed to thorough preparation and to pursuing trials when they offer the best path to justice for his clients.

A frequent writer and speaker, Mr. Lewis shares practical and strategic perspectives on birth trauma, medical negligence litigation, and trial advocacy with colleagues nationwide. He has served as co-chairman of the American Association for Justice’s (AAJ) Birth Trauma Litigation Group and sat on its executive board. He has also held leadership roles with AAJ’s Medical Negligence Information Exchange Group, contributing to educational programs and peer collaboration within the field.

Mr. Lewis’s professional foundation includes a B.A. from Miami University (1989) and a J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law (1997), where he served on the law review and later clerked for Chief Judge William O. Bertelsman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. He is admitted in Ohio and Kentucky and in several federal courts, holds an AV Preeminent* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell, and is rated 10.0 on Avvo. Active in the Northern Kentucky community, he also chairs the board of Crescent Ridge Academy.
