Elizabeth S. Hughes is a partner at Green Chesnut & Hughes PLLC. Located in Lexington, Kentucky, she provides representation to clients throughout the region in several different practice areas. An astute trial lawyer, Ms. Hughes has extensive criminal defense experience. In that regard, she assists people who are facing state or federal charges such as drug possession and trafficking as well as fraud, embezzlement and other types of white collar crimes.

In her civil litigation practice, Ms. Hughes provides representation to employees who have been discriminated against by their employers, with cases arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and other federal statutes. She also provides advice and counsel to victims of workplace sexual harassment, and she seeks redress for whistleblowers who have been wrongfully terminated or otherwise retaliated against. Ms. Hughes also has experience in helping clients who are facing the end of their marriages deal with such divorce-related issues as property division and child custody and visitation. Her efforts in all of these areas have earned her an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.

Ms. Hughes attended Vanderbilt University as an undergraduate and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1988. Her legal education came at the University of Kentucky College of Law, and she was awarded her Juris Doctor in 1991. Ms. Hughes spent several years at another Lexington law firm before joining her current firm in 2013. A life fellow of the Kentucky Bar Foundation, her other professional memberships include the Kentucky and Fayette County bar associations. Admitted to practice in Kentucky, Ms. Hughes is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.
