Verdicts / Settlements (Case Results)

  • I was lead counsel in a medical malpractice case in which a Boyd County, KY jury returned a verdict of $1,402,776.  The client was very happy, as was I.  The defendants were a doctor and his practice.  The doctor is a hematologist whom a non-party surgeon consulted for the specific purpose of advising whether the patient needed blood thinners prior to leg surgery.  Although the standard of care clearly required the defendant hematologist to recommend blood thinners prior to surgery, he did not do so.  Consequently, the patient suffered a DVT as a result of having surgery without first taking blood thinners., 2016
