Attorney Jay Prather is a founding partner of Garmer & Prather, PLLC, in Lexington, Kentucky. A recognized trial attorney with more than 16 years of legal experience, Mr. Prather devotes his practice primarily to personal injury law, and he provides exceptional advocacy and support to clients throughout Kentucky who have complex, pressing legal challenges as a result of any of the following:

In addition to handling all types of personal injury and wrongful death claims, Mr. Prather also handles whistleblower and qui tam cases as well as wage and hour disputes and other serious employment law matters. He has experience with complex litigation and has been appointed class counsel in several class action lawsuits. Throughout the course of his legal career, he has gained a reputation as a fierce advocate for his clients. He and his firm have secured millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts for those he has served.
Honored for his outstanding professionalism and service, Mr. Prather helps develop the next generation of lawyers as an adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Kentucky David J. Rosenberg College of Law, where he teaches medical liability to upper-level law students. He is also a long-time governor of the Kentucky Justice Association, Kentucky's preeminent organization for plaintiffs' lawyers, and is now a district vice president. he holds an AV-Preeminent peer review rating* from Martindale-Hubbell along with many other top rankings and endorsements from his peers and has been selected to the American Inns of Court. A 2003 cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University, Mr. Prather obtained his Juris Doctor in 2006 from the University of Kentucky College of Law, where he has a member of the Kentucky Law Journal and the Moot Court Board. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th, 6th and 11th Circuit. Additionally, he has received admission to practice pro hac vice in Alabama, Tennessee and Ohio.
An active leader in the legal community, Mr. Prather has served in various positions with the Kentucky Justice Association, Kentucky Bar Association, American Inns of Court, and American Constitution Society. He is a member of the Fayette County Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the American and Federal Bar Associations. Outside the office, Jay has been a trustee of the Lexington History Museum, a leader of Crestwood Christian Church, and served numerous other civic assignments over the years.
