    Jon L. Fleischaker is an attorney at Kaplan Johnson Abate and Bird LLP, and he focuses his practice on First Amendment cases and other aspects of media law at both the trial and appellate levels. Located in the firm's office in Louisville, Kentucky, he represents journalists and other print and broadcast media clients throughout the state. Admitted to practice in Kentucky, Mr. Fleischaker is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Kentucky, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 5th, 6th and 8th Circuits, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He has received an AV Preeminent* peer review rating in recognition of both the high quality of his work and his superb ethics.

    Mr. Fleischaker was instrumental in drafting both the Kentucky Open Meetings Act and the Kentucky Open Records Act, and he has handled many disputes related to those pieces of legislation on behalf of his media clients. In recognition of the work that he has done throughout his distinguished career, he has been inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame, the only nonjournalist to have ever received that honor. He and his wife are the creators of the Fleischaker-Greene Fund for Excellence in First Amendment issues that supports aspiring journalists who are studying at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. Mr. Fleischaker has also served as general counsel to the Kentucky Press Association.

    Mr. Fleischaker's community involvement has included his serving as chairman of the board of Jewish Community of Louisville. He is a member of the Louisville Bar Association, and he is a fellow in the American Bar Foundation. His legal education came at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was the editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review before being awarded his Juris Doctor magna cum laude in 1970.
