The founder of James E. Boren, Mr. Boren, has been successfully defending people across the state of Louisiana against criminal charges for more than 35 years. He routinely secures case dismissals, not-guilty verdicts and other favorable outcomes in cases that involve matters such as the following: federal crimes, drug crimes, white collar crimes, sex crimes, health care fraud, internet sex crimes and environmental protection.

Mr. Boren advises clients through every phase of the justice system, from an initial arrest to grand jury investigations and through appeals or other post-conviction issues. In addition to his practical experience, he uses tools and resources he gleans from his memberships with organizations that include the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Criminal Law Section.

For his many accomplishments, Mr. Boren holds the highest peer review rating possible of AV Preeminent* from Martindale-Hubbell; he has an Avvo “Superb” rating; and he has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America.

In addition to his practice, Mr. Boren teaches several criminal law courses at the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center. He is also a frequent guest speaker and a published author. In his spare time, Mr. Boren works with the Innocence Project, which works to exonerate people of crimes for which they have been wrongfully convicted.

In 1971, Mr. Boren earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Louisiana Tech University. He went on to receive a Juris Doctor in 1975 from the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where he was invited to join the Order of the Coif and ranked first in his class. He was also a member of the school’s law review.
