Currently serving as of counsel at Longman Jakuback in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, James E. Boren holds over five decades of experience in the legal profession. Counseling clients in matters of criminal defense, including white collar crimes, sexual offenses, and drug and alcohol allegations, he provides top-notch representation and protects their rights.

Throughout the years, Mr. Boren has represented numerous clients and has acquired multiple not guilty verdicts. He has handled several high-profile cases, including a mayor of Baton Rouge and a deputy U.S. marshal accused of obstruction of justice. He understands that each case can upend a life if not handled well and aggressively defends his clients. Prioritizing protecting his client’s rights at all levels, he strives to win an acquittal or reduce charges.

Gaining his Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1975 Mr. Boren acquired his license to practice in Louisiana in the same year. He is additionally admitted to appear before the U.S. District Court for the District of Louisiana, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and the 5th Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Among his victories, he notably secured the release of a client facing life in prison after successfully defeating second-degree murder charges in a high-stakes Ascension Parish trial. The jury returned a verdict of negligent homicide, finally ending three years of pretrial incarceration and reuniting a father with the son.

Mr. Boren has been an active member of various legal organizations and has also served on many, including the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Criminal Law Section, as the co-chair of the Indigent Defense Committee of the American Bar Association and as a board member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He has received adulation from his peers for his unending service and received the Justice Albert Tate, Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000 from the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He has also received an AV Preeminent* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.
