Kathryn Jakuback Burke is a Baton Rouge criminal defense trial attorney and co-founding Partner of Longman Jakuback, APLC. A former Assistant Public Defender in East Baton Rouge Parish, she has practiced criminal defense since her admission to the Louisiana bar in 2017. She handles serious state and federal charges from investigation and bond hearings through trial, appeal, and post-conviction relief, and received the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers' Blackstone Award in 2023.
About Kathryn Jakuback Burke
Kathryn Jakuback Burke co-founded Longman Jakuback, APLC with Jacob Longman in 2018. The two finished law school together at LSU in 2017, the year she was admitted to the Louisiana bar, and she has spent her career in criminal defense, handling complex matters from initial investigation and bond hearings through trial and post-conviction relief.
Ms. Burke came to private practice from public defense. Before her admission she worked as an investigator with the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Defender's Office, and she went on to serve there as an Assistant Public Defender, carrying a substantial caseload in a high-volume criminal court. That work built the habits that still define her practice: thorough legal research, motions to suppress and to quash, and cross-examination at preliminary hearings and trial.
Her practice today centers on serious state and federal charges, with substantial appellate and constitutional litigation and some family law. Ms. Burke develops trial strategy for clients facing the greatest exposure and prepares every case as if it will go to trial. She also leads and mentors the firm's associates, paralegals, and investigators.
Experience Overview
Ms. Burke's experience includes jury and bench trials in state and federal court, preliminary examinations and bond hearings, motions to suppress and quash, appellate and constitutional litigation, and post-conviction relief. She also supervises case preparation across the firm's criminal defense team.
