Pro bono/Community Service:

  • Mark served for many years as the Financial Chairman for the March of Dimes, New Orleans.  This requires many hours putting on fundraisers and socials throughout the year.  He also volunteers his time and services with the Ozanam Inn Homeless Shelter in New Orleans, providing counseling to the homeless on issues ranging from lost ID cards and maneuvering the red tape in the state government, to helping individuals to become productive members of the New Orleans community.

Verdicts/Settlements:

  • $2.1 Million Settlement - for business which owned an apartment complex which suffered property damage and mold infestation after roof caved in.
  • $25 Million Settlement - Preston / Husband v. Tenet Memorial - settlement of class action against Memorial Hospital for wrongful death and injuries suffered by occupants of the hospital (doctors, nurses, patients and guests) due to hospital administration negligence.
  • $3.1 Million Judgment - Engle v. New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board - trial court judgement and subsequent appeals to the Louisiana Supreme Court for Registered Nurse who suffered a brain injury.
  • $3.2 Million Judgment - Marion Cooper, et al v. CNA Insurance Company - trial court judgment for family who suffered injuries in auto accident.
  • $2.7 Million Settlement - Powell v. Credit Suisse First Boston - $2.7 million class action settlement for guests of a New Orleans hotel who suffered injuries and damages as a result of exposure to toxic mold.
  • $1.3 million settlement for owner of a motel who sustained damage as a result of Hurricane Katrina.  This settlement was on the third day of trial.  Prior to trial beginning, the defendants top offer was $104,000.  
  • $51.4 Million Verdict - Schweitzer v. RTA, et al. - jury verdict for minor child who suffered extensive damage to her arm, and had to undergo over 20 surgeries.  This was the largest jury verdict for an individual plaintiff in the history of the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans.  Attorney Johnnie Cochran was also a part of Plaintiff's "trial team."
  • $5.0 Million Settlement - Brown v. Crescent on Canal Hotel - $5 million class action settlement for workers of a New Orleans hotel who suffered injuries and damages as a result of exposure to toxic mold.
  • $1.2 million Settlement - for woman who was rendered quadraplegic victim as a result of medical malpractice.  After winning at the medical review panel stage followed by 2 years of litigation, settled for the $500,000 cap plus past medical bills and proviso that PCF will pay all future medical bills for the rest of her life.  
  • $4.1 Million Judgment - Joseph v. Entergy New Orleans, Inc. - judgment, including appeals all the way to the Louisiana Supreme Court, awarding $4.1 million to individual with brain injury and sexual dysfunction.
  • $1.06 Million Judgment - Terrance Tunstall v. Traveler's Insurance Company - $1,060,000 trial court judgment for individual who suffered neck and back injuries, including two surgeries, in automobile accident.  This judgment was in excess of Traveler's insurance policy limits.

Transactions:

  • Represented Reggie Wayne of the Indianapolis Colts for purchase and subsequent development of $14 million amusement and gaming complex.
