Details

The managing partner of Lane Law Group LLC, attorney Michael D. Lane has more than 15 years of legal experience assisting individuals and businesses in today's competitive environment.  He offers cost-effective legal services to the residents of Louisiana in a wide range of matters including:

  • Insurance coverage
  • Construction
  • Personal injury
  • Products liability
  • Class actions and multidistrict litigation

A life-long resident of Louisiana, Mr. Lane completed his education at Tulane University Law School in 2005 shortly before Hurricane Katrina struck the city of New Orleans.  After returning from evacuation, he spent the early part of his career at a large law firm representing businesses, as well as domestic and international insurance carriers, in connection with hundreds of property damage claims, learning first-hand how insurers deny policyholders what they are owed.

Over the past decade, Mr. Lane expanded his practice to represent general contractors and subcontractors in complex construction disputes, including most recently in the tragic Hard Rock Hotel collapse.  He has tried numerous cases in state and federal court as well as before arbitration panels, and has presented dozens of seminars for clients and industry groups. Mr. Lane has also written articles for the American Bar Association, Engineering News-Record Magazine, and New Orleans Bar Association, among other publications.

A steadfast and skilled litigator, Mr. Lane protects his clients’ legal and business interests by thoroughly analyzing their costs, goals and risks. He has advocated for clients facing extensive property damage after natural disasters, including storms and hurricanes such as Katrina, Gustav, Rita, Harvey, Sandy, Laura, and Ida. He has also been successful in representing developers, general contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers in numerous large-loss construction defect matters.

Mr. Lane has lectured at many seminars and conferences across Louisiana and has written articles for several prominent journals on insurance and construction law topics.  He is licensed to practice law in all the state courts of Louisiana, the Louisiana Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Western and Middle Districts of Louisiana.

Mr. Lane is a good standing with the Louisiana State Bar Association, New Orleans Bar Association, Jefferson Bar Association, and American Bar Association.  He is rated “Superb” through Avvo with a 10.0 rating and has been recognized by Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers, and America's Top 100 High Stakes Litigators.  He has also been recognized on the New Orleans Magazine’s Top Lawyers list.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Lane has volunteered with several charitable and nonprofit organizations such as the Special Olympics, Volunteers of America, New Orleans Pro Bono Project, and Habitat for Humanity.  He was awarded the New Orleans Pro Bono Project Distinguished Service Award and the Louisiana State Bar Association Crystal Gavel Award in recognition of his outstanding pro bono activities.
