John L. Hammons

John L. Hammons is the managing partner of Nelson & Hammons, APLC, a Shreveport-based law firm dedicated to investigating and prosecuting Louisiana medical malpractice cases in a thorough and professional manner. For nearly 30 years, Mr. Hammons has been at the forefront of Louisiana’s medical malpractice law developments and has also been involved in several precedent-setting cases. Today, both he and the firm remain as committed as ever to fighting for quality medical care and to obtaining just compensation for those who have been seriously injured as a result of substandard medical care.

Mr. Hammons is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University (B.A., magna cum laude, 1973) and Louisiana State University's Paul M. Herbert School of Law (J.D., 1976). His public service commitments over the years have included an appointment to the Governor's Commission on Medical Malpractice, membership on the Louisiana Medical Disclosure Panel and, most recently, participation in the Medical Malpractice Coalition. The coalition is evaluating the effectiveness of and considering proposals for amendments to the Louisiana Medical Malpractice Act. Mr. Hammons is also active in several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Louisiana Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice and the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics.
