Sean R. Turley is the chair of the Land Use practice group at Murray Plumb & Murray in Portland, Maine. He brings to his work the analytical rigor and communication skills he honed during the decade he spent as a public high school teacher.
Mr. Turley's practice is broad and multifaceted, centering on land use, litigation and environmental law. He regularly represents clients in complex litigation matters involving rights in real property; appears on their behalf before municipal boards and state agencies; assists them in preparing deeds and covenants; and helps them assess the feasibility of proposed projects. A distinguishing feature of his work is his expertise in forensic real estate matters, which involve understanding and untangling property disputes rooted in conflicting or long-forgotten deeds, surveys, and plans. His command of administrative law further allows him to guide clients through appeals of governmental and municipal decisions, work he finds especially rewarding.
Before joining Murray Plumb & Murray, Mr. Turley clerked for the Maine Superior Court and served as a fellow with the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project, experiences that deepened his commitment to client-centered advocacy. Academically, he holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Maine School of Law (2019), a Master of Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education (2006), and a Bachelor of Arts from Bowdoin College (2005)—credentials that reflect both his legal skill and his enduring passion for teaching and problem-solving.
