A highly-regarded civil trial attorney, Matthew E. Kiely is a partner at Brown Kiely LLP. Based in the firm’s office in Bethesda, Maryland, he represents individual and business clients throughout parts of the greater District of Columbia metropolitan area. Admitted to practice in Maryland since 1989, Mr. Kiely is also admitted to practice in the District of Columbia as well as before the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.
A portion of Mr. Kiely's practice involves personal injury and wrongful death litigation, in which he represents people who have been harmed due to the negligence or recklessness of other parties in cases involving premises liability, nursing home abuse, truck and other motor vehicle crashes, and defective products. He has also for years represented people who have been the victims of mesothelioma. In many cases, the victims inhaled asbestos dust at their places of employment and then spread it to other people in their households. In this regard, Mr. Kiely has successfully brought claims against employers as well as the manufacturers of products that contained asbestos.
Mr. Kiely's general civil litigation experience has also encompassed business torts, contract breaches, securities fraud, and business disputes. His successful track record in all of these professional endeavors has earned him the respect of his colleagues, as evidenced by his receipt of a "Distinguished" peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and several other honors. A 1986 Bachelor of Arts recipient from Saint Anselm College, Mr. Kiely pursued his legal education at The Columbus School of Law, also known as Catholic University of America, and he served on the Journal of Contemporary Health Law and Policy before receiving his Juris Doctor in 1989.
