Matthew R. Hertz

     Matthew Hertz is a partner of the law firm of Cohen and Hertz.  Mr. Hertz came to the firm as an associate, fresh out of law school, with a desire to practice litigation, specifically in the areas of criminal defense and family law.  Over the years he has worked at his craft and has become recognized as a competent and worthy adversary in numerous court proceedings both in Maryland and the District of Columbia. 

 

     Mr. Hertz is specifically proud of his track record of obtaining the results his clients desire and taking advantage of numerous approaches to obtain that result, whether that is through contact with opposing counsel, mediation or, in some circumstances, trial.  Mr. Hertz can be confidently looked up to represent an individual in a family related litigation  whether that matter involves complex financial issues, child custody disputes, child access disputes, guardianships or conservatorships. 

 

     Mr. Hertz has become proficient in practicing before both local and federal courts, and has represented a wide array of clients ranging from individuals in divorces and custody matters, to corporations involved in civil litigation.  However, what he is most proud of is his work with indigent and low income clients representing individuals in criminal matters on a pro bono or reduced fee basis.  Mr. Hertz strongly believes in his obligation to give back to the community where he can, and has encouraged the members of his firm to do the same.

 

     Mr. Hertz serves on the Maryland Attorney Grievance Commission Peer Review Panel, and has previously been a member of the Montgomery County Inn of Court, both organizations established to foster and encourage ethical, competent practice of law in the State of Maryland.

 

     Mr. Hertz can be trusted to serve as counsel, advisor and confidant in his areas of practice and has come to be known by his clients as someone who will always be there for them, and is dependable to guide them through whatever legal matter they need addressed.
