Deborah L. Potter

Deborah L. Potter is a founding partner at Potter Burnett Law located in Bowie, Maryland. With over 31 years of legal experience, Ms. Potter focuses her practice solely on personal injury matters, including motor vehicle accidents, truck accidents, wrongful death, nursing home negligence and slip-and-fall accidents. 

With a genuine concern for the well-being of her clients, Ms. Potter is a dedicated and tireless advocate for their rights. She is mindful of the damaging consequences of being injured because of another party’s negligent and careless actions, and she strives to bring justice for her clients. Ms. Potter has a long list of having obtained several successful verdicts and settlements on behalf of her clients. 

Ms. Potter is licensed to practice in Maryland and Washington, D.C. She has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland. She earned her Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Maryland School of Law. Ms. Potter was a member of the University of Maryland Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee and a board member of the University of Maryland Alumni Association. 

Enthusiastically involved in prominent legal associations, Ms. Potter is a member of the Anne Arundel Bar Association, where she was its youngest president. She was also the first female president of the University of Maryland Terrapin Club. She served a board of trustees’ member of the University of Maryland College Park, the Maryland Association for Justice Board of Directors, the CASA Board, and Prince Georges County Bar Association Board. 

Being recognized for her remarkable legal services, Ms. Potter was the recipient of many awards, including the Daily Record Leadership in the Law Award, Trial Lawyer of the Year by MAJ, Prince George’s County Bar Association President’s Award, CASA’s Generous Heart Award, Anne Arundel Bar Association Trustees Award and the Justice For All Award. 

In addition, Ms. Potter serves as a chair in the Attorney Grievance Peer Review Panel and is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers’ Judiciary Committee and the American Board of Trial Advocates. The Daily Record named Ms. Potter to its Top 100 Women list and the American Lawyer Magazine named her to its Women Leaders in the Law list. She has a “Superb” rating on Avvo. Ms. Potter is an ardent speaker and has spoken at numerous seminars in renowned legal associations.
