Attorney Profile

For more than 25 years, Deborah Potter has taken her role as attorney seriously. As co-founder of Potter Burnett Law, LLC, she fiercely advocates for people who have suffered a personal injury. She understands the lifelong repercussions that accidents, medical malpractice and nursing home neglect could have on a client. Keeping that in mind, she has had widespread success returning significant awards in Bowie and throughout Maryland, as well as in Northern Virginia; Washington, D.C.; and the surrounding areas.

One of Ms. Potter’s most prominent accomplishments is a $26 million verdict she won against the Ford Motor Company. From high-profile cases to assisting local families, Ms. Potter applies the same comprehensive strategy, which includes forming a close relationship with clients. She truly listens to their concerns and is adamant about securing the compensation they need to move forward with their lives.

This approach is the reason why Ms. Potter has received honors such as holding the highest peer review rating possible of AV Preeminent* from Martindale-Hubbell; being named one of the Top Women in Law by The American Lawyer magazine; receiving the Anne Arundel Bar Association Trustees Award; and holding an Avvo “Superb” rating.

A frequent guest speaker, Ms. Potter is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, Inc., the Prince George’s County Bar Association and the Maryland Association of Justice. She was the first female president of the University of Maryland Terrapin Club and was also the youngest president of the Anne Arundel Bar Association.

In 1987, Ms. Potter earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Maryland. She then graduated with honors and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 1990.

* AV®, AV Preeminent®, Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished and Martindale-Hubbell Notable are certification marks used under license in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies.
