Carol James

Carol James is the proprietor of the Law Offices of Carol L. James in Columbia, Maryland, and has devoted 43 years to the practice of law and to civic engagement. Her litigation and dispute-resolution practice focuses on family law; she also serves as a mediator, parent coordinator and collaborative law practitioner.

Over four decades, Ms. James has developed a client-centered approach that seeks durable solutions tailored to both immediate circumstances and long-term welfare, endeavoring to minimize unnecessary conflict and expense. Her legal philosophy is informed by a genuine desire to understand each client's priorities and constraints, and by a commitment to guiding parties toward outcomes that preserve dignity and promote stability. 

Equally committed to community life, Ms. James has held numerous volunteer and leadership roles. She served on her neighborhood school’s parent-teacher association for eight years, led the local high school sports boosters as president, managed her son’s travel teams for seven seasons and has been active in neighborhood associations and her church. These experiences have reinforced her belief in civic responsibility and strengthened her ability to communicate, organize and advocate effectively.

Educationally, Ms. James pursued legal studies at the University of Baltimore School of Law, earning her degree in 1983. She passed the Maryland Bar Association and has been licensed to practice in the state since 1983. Her professional and community work together reflect a steadfast commitment to serving clients and enhancing the quality of life in her community.
