Top Rated Family Law Attorney in Columbia, MD
Claire McDowell has been an attorney at Family Legal Advocacy Group, LLC, since the fall of 2019. She focuses her practice exclusively on family law cases, representing people throughout the state of Maryland from the firm’s offices in Columbia, close to the city where she grew up. Ms. McDowell has been admitted to practice before all Maryland state courts since the end of 2018.
Ms. McDowell majored in government and politics at the University of Maryland’s flagship campus in College Park, and she spent a year as an exchange student at a university in Australia before receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 2015. She remained in College Park for her legal education at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, and before she was awarded her Juris Doctor in 2018, she served as an editor on the University of Maryland Law Journal of Race, Religion, Gender and Class. After she graduated, Ms. McDowell clerked for a judge on the Circuit Court for Howard County before joining her present firm.
In her practice, Ms. McDowell represents clients whose marriages have come to an end, and she guides them through the intricacies of child custody and visitation, marital property division, and spousal and child support. She often encourages the use of mediation or negotiations to resolve these issues, but when that is not possible, she advocates on their behalf in the courtroom. Ms. McDowell has also helped people who have already received a divorce decree and who are now seeking to have existing parenting or support court orders modified or enforced. In order to stay abreast of current developments in family law and to forge connections with fellow attorneys, she is a member of several legal organizations.
