Miriam H. Sievers is an attorney with the Law Offices of Karen D. Amos, who represents clients in family law matters. A knowledgeable, passionate representative of those in Howard County and the Baltimore, Maryland, metropolitan area, she is trained as a best interest attorney (BIA) and in Collaborative law. While she concentrates on areas of assisted reproductive technology (ART) law and LGBT family law, she is also experienced in managing custody disputes, negotiation and litigation of separation and divorce. Her work with ART law includes family formation, second-parent adoptions, traditional adoptions, and donor and surrogacy agreements.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 2006 from Brandeis University, she attended the University of Maryland Carey School of Law. In 2013, Ms. Sievers graduated cum laude with her Juris Doctor and is now a guest speaker for the University of Baltimore’s Sexual Orientation and the Law course. While in law school, she served as the school’s chapter president of the Law Students for Reproductive Justice.
A member of The National LGBT Bar Association and the Maryland State Bar Association, she is also involved with the Family Law Institute of the National Center for Lesbian Rights. Admitted to practice in the state of Maryland, Ms. Sievers was a student board member for the FreeState Legal Project (now FreeState Justice) while in law school.Â
Ms. Sievers served as a law clerk for the National Center for Transgender Equality and spent time helping transgender clients obtain identity documents. A former elementary school teacher, she also worked for a consulting company in the area as a project assistant before attending law school.
