Attorney David W. Fischer has been recognized as one of Maryland's best criminal defense attorneys. With 28 years of experience, Mr. Fischer has successfully defended thousands of state and federal criminal cases. Mr. Fischer has made numerous guest appearances on local and national television as a legal commentator and on behalf of clients, and he teaches continuing legal education courses for other attorneys.
Mr. Fischer has been recognized by Baltimore Magazine as a "Top Attorney in Maryland," by Annapolis Magazine as a "Leading Lawyer," and by SuperLawyers as a top Maryland criminal defense attorney. Mr. Fischer and his law partner, David P. Putzi, won an acquittal in the most famous homicide case in the history of Anne Arundel County, State vs. Jacob Fortney (2006). More recently, Mr. Fischer won an acquittal in United States vs. Thomas Caldwell (2022), the most high-profile seditious conspiracy prosecution in federal court in Washington, D.C. arising out of the January 6th Capitol "insurrection" Oath Keepers prosecution. The defendant in that case, Thomas Caldwell, was allegedly the mastermind behind the January 6 breach of the Capitol; his acquittal shocked the D.C. press corps, who characterized it as the best outcome of any January 6 defendant. Mr. Fischer has won more than 500 acquittals in his career. In 2003, Mr. Fischer was named to the prestigious Criminal Justice Act panel of the U.S. District Court, District of Maryland. He has appeared in every courthouse across Maryland, state and federal, and has represented clients in federal courts in Virginia and Washington, D.C. His list of former clients includes professional athletes, Washington politicians, Maryland elected officials, lawyers, and, overwhelmingly, ordinary citizens who find themselves in trouble with the law.
Mr. Fischer is a 1995 honors graduate of the University of Maryland Law School, where he served as an editor of the Maryland Law Review. In 1992, he was selected as a NCAA Academic-All American basketball player, and received a NCAA post-graduate scholarship to attend law school. Mr. Fischer is admitted to practice in all courts in Maryland, in the U.S. District Court (Maryland), the U.S. District Court (D.C.), the U.S. Court of Appeals (Fourth Circuit), U.S. Court of Claims, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals (D.C.), and the United States Supreme Court.
