Sydney M. Patterson

Sydney M. Patterson is a partner at MarcusBonsib, LLC, in Greenbelt, Maryland, where she represents clients in a wide spectrum of criminal and civil matters throughout the state. In her criminal defense practice, she handles cases ranging from drug offenses, assault, domestic violence, theft and robbery to more serious charges such as murder, vehicular homicide, and sex crimes, including rape, statutory rape, molestation and sexual assault.

Ms. Patterson also advocates for individuals accused of white collar offenses (fraud, embezzlement and political corruption), traffic violations (DUI/DWI, reckless driving and vehicular homicide) and guides appellate challenges. Her civil and general litigation work complements her criminal practice, ensuring well-rounded advocacy for her clients.

A member of the Maryland State Bar Association and admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the District of Maryland and the U.S. District Courts for the District of Columbia, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit and D.C. Circuit Courts of Appeals, Ms. Patterson brings a wealth of appellate and trial experience to every matter. A graduate of American University’s Washington College of Law, where she served as a dean’s fellow and senior staff member of the Administrative Law Review, she also holds a B.A. in political science and Spanish from Xavier University, graduating with honors on the dean’s list.

Co-author of “Modernizing Jury Instructions in the Age of Social Media” in the ABA Criminal Justice Journal, Ms. Patterson has been honored by the Best Lawyers in America for criminal defense, commercial litigation and appellate practice. She contributes her competence as a member of the Montgomery County Trial Courts Judicial Nominating Commission and the Maryland Court of Appeals Advisory Committee on the Uniform Bar Examination.
