Bruce Avery began his dispute resolution career in the United States military. Mr. Avery first began assisting individuals with resolving conflicts as an Army ombudsman, and later provided 15 years of service in the Judge Advocate General's Corps.

In 1993, Bruce Avery continued his legal practice career exclusively in family law. First as a solo practitioner and then partnering with his daughter, Prudence Avery Upton, Mr. Avery is committed to practicing law that serves the best interests of his clients' families.

As a civil and family law mediator and a facilitator for the family law division of the Montgomery County Circuit Court, Bruce Avery understands how to help individuals experiencing divorce and other family law issues come to their own agreements and decide the futures of their families, rather than have those decisions made for them by the courts.

Bruce Avery is an adjunct professor of Collaborative Practice at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Mr. Avery is a member of the faculty of the Collaborative Practice Training Institute and has, with other members of the faculty, trained hundreds of Maryland attorneys and other professionals in use of Collaborative Practice to resolve disputes.

Bruce Avery is admitted to the Maryland, DC, and Kentucky state bars. He also is authorized to practice before the  the U.S. Supreme Court, and in South Korea.

Mr. Avery is a founding member and Past President and former Board Member of Collaborative Dispute Resolution Professionals (CDRP), former Board Member of Maryland Collaborative Practice Council (MCPC), and a founding faculty member of the Collaborative Practice Training Institute (CPTI).
