Attorney Profile

To achieve the best possible results for her family law clients, Julie Christopher works closely with them using a measured approach tailored to their needs and goals. Julie is sensitive to the devastating impact that separation and divorce has on the family unit. In a time of high emotions she strives to calm tensions and provide a broad, 360-degree view of the issues at hand and options for resolving them. In the process, Julie helps her clients to identify reasonable goals, and to work towards those goals through negotiation and mediation. When necessary, Julie is always prepared to pursue those goals in court.

Julie concentrates her practice in the areas of domestic relations, including complex custody actions, child support and alimony, modifications to existing agreements, property distribution and valuations, contempt and enforcement, pre- and post-nuptial agreements and separation agreements. She has successfully litigated a broad range of family law issues and regularly appears in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland. There, Julie is trained to serve as a child privilege, best interests, or child advocate attorney, representing the interests of minor children, and as court-appointed counsel for alleged disabled persons and as guardian of property.

As an active member of the local legal community, Julie was asked to serve alongside judges, court personnel, and other private attorneys on two committees for the Circuit Court of Montgomery County, Maryland. The first, in 2015, focused on streamlining procedures and policies for custody, divorce, domestic violence, and guardianship cases. The second is currently working to make pro bono services more accessible to underserved litigants in the County.

For the Bar Association of Montgomery County, Julie has served in numerous leadership positions, including Family Law Section Program Chair and Co-Chair (for which she was awarded “Section Chair of the Year” in 2012). In addition, she is also collaboratively trained and a member of the Collaborative Law Section. Julie was listed among Maryland’s (2015-2017) and Washington, D.C.’s (2015-2016) Super Lawyers lists, and Bethesda Magazine named Julie as a honorable mention in the 2013 edition of "Top Divorce Lawyers" in the area.

Prior to entering private practice, Julie was a judicial clerk for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland, Baltimore Division, and the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Outside of Stein Sperling, Julie enjoys spending time with her family.
