Timothy M. Gunning

In early 2019, Timothy M. Gunning joined forces with his good friend Michael T. Wyatt and co-founded the law firm Wyatt & Gunning LLC, an AV rated boutique firm in Towson, Maryland, where together they will zealously represent clients in business, real estate, commercial, fiduciary/estate, tort, malpractice and criminal litigation, and business, real estate, commercial and real estate transactional matters.  

Before Wyatt & Gunning LLC, Mr. Gunning founded the Law Offices of Timothy M. Gunning, LLC, in 1998, and for over 20 years there represented individual and corporate clients in a wide variety of criminal and civil litigation matters in Maryland state and federal courts, and, occasionally in other jurisdictions.

While most of his cases are in Central Maryland (Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Harford, Howard, Carroll and Anne Arundel counties), Mr. Gunning has handled cases in nearly every county in Maryland.  Most often hired upon the recommendation of a fellow attorney or a past or current client, Mr. Gunning's typical case is a criminal defense, DUI, complex personal injury, professional malpractice or business litigation matter that is the most important thing in that particular client's life, and the preparation and handling of his cases is with that expectation in mind. An extremely experienced and able trial lawyer, Mr. Gunning has tried hundreds of cases to verdict, including many jury trials.

After earning his Bachelor of Arts in English from Boston College, Mr. Gunning earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.  Mr. Gunning then served one year as Law Clerk to Judge James B. Dudley of the Circuit Court for Howard County, an invaluable experience that provided an inside view of the Court and the lawyers and cases before it. After his clerkship, Mr. Gunning was appointed as an Assistant State's Attorney for Baltimore County, where he worked for nearly six years, prosecuting criminal cases of every type, including numerous high profile cases and several capital murder cases. During this time Mr. Gunning tried hundreds of cases to verdict, including over 20 felony jury trials. While at the States Attorney's Office, Mr. Gunning not only gained invaluable experience, but also had the privilege and benefit of learning under mentors who were among the best prosecutors in Maryland, many of whom are now judges.

Mr. Gunning is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the Baltimore County Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Maryland Association for Justice, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Maryland Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Library Company of the Baltimore Bar.

Since 2011, Mr. Gunning has been the co-chair of the Criminal Law Subcommittee of the Maryland State Bar Association's Special Committee on Voir Dire and a member of the Tort Law Subcommittee as well.  Mr. Gunning is also a long time member of the Criminal Law Committee of the Baltimore County Bar Association and was its President in 2012-2013.

Upon invitation, Mr. Gunning has lectured other lawyers on various legal topics, including the Maryland Office of the Public Defender, the Baltimore County Bar Association Criminal Law Committee, the Maryland States Attorney's Association and the Board of Governors of the Maryland State Bar Association.

Because of his excellent work and reputation, Mr. Gunning is often asked by fellow attorneys to provide counsel on their most complex cases and most of his clients are referred to him by attorneys and former clients.  Since 2001, Mr. Gunning has held the AV Preeminent* Rating by Martindale-Hubbell, is also listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, and been selected as a Maryland Super Lawyer every year since 2008.
