Details
Eric B. Tennen is a partner at Swomley & Tennen, LLP, located in Boston, Massachusetts, and he provides representation to clients throughout the surrounding areas. He focuses his practice on criminal defense matters at both the trial and appellate levels, with a special emphasis on sex offenses and their associated collateral consequences, including involuntary civil commitment and sex offender registration.
Mr. Tennen completed his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, receiving his Bachelor of Arts with distinction in 1998. He went on to attend Boston University School of Law, where he was awarded his Juris Doctor magna cum laude in 2001. Mr. Tennen then continued his legal education at SUNY Buffalo Law School and obtained his LL.M. in criminal law in 2004.
Prior to joining Swomley & Tennen, LLP, in 2004, Mr. Tennen served as a law clerk for a judge on the Massachusetts Appeals Court as well as for the Chief Justice of the High Court of American Samoa. His passionate and thorough advocacy on behalf of his clients since entering private practice has resulted in many victories, including winning a new trial for a client who was convicted in 1985 for the rape of a child due to ineffective assistance of the client's former trial and appellate attorneys.
The chairman of the board of the Criminal Justice Policy Coalition, Mr. Tennen is an active participant in the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.
