He served as president of the Massachusetts Bar Association (MBA) and as chair of the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers of the Supreme Judicial Court. Previously, he served in the MBA House of Delegates and at the Judicial Administration Section Council as the chairman. He also served on the Board of Governors of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys and was a member of its Executive Committee.

The Commission is entrusted with the stewardship of over 1000 acres of conservation land and addresses natural resource issues of the town and region. Empowered to administer the State Wetland Protection Act (M.G.L. Chapter 131, section 40), the Rivers Protection Law, and the Town of Hingham's Wetlands Protection Bylaw. The Commission reviews all projects that fall within their jurisdiction. After review, orders of conditions are issued to applicants intended to protect the natural resource interests of the community.
