Kenneth P. Brier is Counsel in the Private Client and Fiduciary Services Group at Verrill Dana LLP in Boston, MA. He focuses his practice on estate planning, probate, taxation, small business planning and executive benefit matters. He helps clients pass their wealth along to the people or charities they most want to receive it, minimizing exposure to the taxman and creditors. Often a lawyer for the lawyers, he takes pride in handling challenging situations, tax or non-tax, dealing with blended families, closely-held businesses, real estate interests, retirement plan interests, and people with multistate or multinational connections. Ken is frequently called upon to serve as a legal consultant and as a neutral Personal Representative for families involved in litigation. As a licensed certified public accountant, Ken is ready and able to deal with the details of taxes and finances.
Ken is a member of the American, Boston and Massachusetts Bar Associations, the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the American Inns of Court, and the Boston Estate Planning Council, and is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), a national elective organization of distinguished trust and estate attorneys. He is the former co-chair of the Boston Bar Association trusts and estates section and of its estate planning committee. Ken is a frequent lecturer and has been quoted in numerous publications. He has authored articles for many publications including ACTEC Notes, The Tax Lawyer, Trusts & Estates, Family Business, Financial Planning, Massachusetts CPA Review, and Tax Law Review. Ken graduated, with honors, from Princeton University in 1975 with a degree in economics, and earned his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1979.
